Meet " William "

William is a very special guinea pig. William was dumped by the side of the road and left in a box to die in 2005. He was half the size of a hand, had mange, almost no hair and he was very skinny. The special part of William's story is as follows.

William was handed in to the RSPCA by the local police but because of his medical condition at the time William would have been euthanased. By some miracle the very day William was to be euthanased was the same day that Jessica (ACS Brisbane Shelter Manager and ACS Founder) phoned the RSPCA to introduce ACS and to become a contact for them to offer service. The same afternoon Jessica contacted the RSPCA she received a phone call from the RSPCA asking if ACS could take on a sick guinea pig that had been surrendered. Within a few hours William was picked him up.

In January 2008 sadly we had to say goodbye to William due to a serious medical condition (inoperable tumor) that could not be treated no matter how much the cost or medical options available. William had a glow in his eyes that he never had before when he was first surrendered and he is a guinea pig that appreciated every moment of his new life and because of his bravery and shining spirit William will always be our mascot. William will always be our ACS Mascot.

The RSPCA in the months following the initial surrender of William, were able to introduce a program whereby they could and still now are able to cater for some of the  unwell small animals they receive and keep them until they are well enough to be adopted. When numbers are full or when a guinea pig is unable to be treated at the RSPCA, ACS remains any local RSPCA's port of call to help out where we can.
