Jaala's Story - Surrendered May 26th 2009

On March 26th 2009 ACS Brisbane Shelter received yet another shocking case of neglect. Jaala was originally surrendered to Peninsula Animal Aid and currently we are unsure of her history. Jaala was transported to ACS for further care.

When Jaala arrived at the shelter she could barely be touched without squeaking in pain and we were unsure where this pain was coming from at the time. Jaala's coat was severely matted at the back and was filled with thick black dandruff on arrival.

Upon further inspection once Jaala was checked over thoroughly we made the shocking discovery that not only did she have bald patches and urine scolding from the severe matting of her coat, but that Jaala was suffering from a case of severe Bumblefoot infection to all four of her feet. ACS have never come across a case whereby a guinea pig had Bumblefoot on all four feet before and to see this beautiful little guinea pig in such a state was devastating.

Jaala was filthy on arrival to the shelter and also very underweight and we can only assume that she has been kept on harsh wire flooring, on filthy bedding probably outdoors since she was dirty all over, and on  filthy flooring and a poor diet for quite some time.

Jaala will be at the shelter for several months hopefully regaining condition and improving from her current state. Bumblefoot infection is an infection that needs close monitoring and can infect into the bone if not treated early. We will update on Jaala's progress in the near future.

Jaala will be looking for some extra loving care and any donations or sponsorship towards her care is greatly appreciated. Gifts towards her care can be anything from monetary donations for her treatment, soft cuddly beds, treats or anything else that you think Jaala could benefit from. Please contact ACS Brisbane Shelter via the website if you would like to sponsor Jaala.
